The world that George Orwell described is more of a reality than ever before,
but is not Reality.

The world continues to remain divided nationally or even in terms of alliance.
However, the world is readily broken down into three different segments (1st,
2nd, and 3rd Worlds), but these segments rarely act in unity.  In Orwell's
world the world was very unified, in three parts if my memory is correct.

Personal rights are on the incline in the world, but this increase faces some
heavey obstacles, such as technology.  Never before have we been able to
intrude eupon the private lives of as many individuals as now, or been able to
accurately record and recall as many histories of the individuals.

We are also becomming less organized, which was contrary to Orwells dream.

I think the most plausible world is that of NEUROMANCER or COUNT ZERO, what
was the author's name      And in line with movies, i think the Earth culture of
ALIENS is very realistic, or even BLADE RUNNER (minus the Outworlds and such).

   That author was William Gibson,
Robert. I'd have to agree with ya
there, I wouldn't be too surprised to
see us end up like that sooner or
later.

Goto Southie or the many projects of New York or Chicago.
Its reality, Macs, IBMs, Amigas, ST's, etc..  And look at telecom, and the
personalities that rummage about here.

   Somehow that sounds like an
insult...

I will have to read those books and
decide for myself.

An insult      I think you are being a bit too sensitive, or rather, a bit too
unperceptive.  Think of the many personalities within that book.

Yes, many are undesirable, just as in today's society.  And a slightly less
amount are desirable, just as in today's society.  So, when i merely alluded
to this little valley of the matrix and the books, i was making an accurate
comparison.  This is a microcosm of society, on this board especially.  Its a
very accurate, and unbiased statement.

I think quite a few of his charcters were very heroic.  The names fail me now,
but the kid in Count Zero (hmmm, maybe that was his name...) was very
admirable.  He went through quite a few changes (mother being blown to bits,
along with home, ripped from friends and his common ground into a very weird
and new world to him), but managed to stay both sane, intelligent, cunning,
and survived too.

Or, the Mr.Wilson fellow.  "Bobby almost pulled a Wilson."  I think he was
definately heroic.  Almost messianic in nature.

And another one, the female in Neromancer.  The one with the permanent
sunglasses.  She sounded like a very "heroic" female...

Um, this field is probably 0's
specialty. You'd be better off asking
him...
